2021 Writing Contest

The Contest

Time and again Fathom Mag editors hear from our contributors that they spend their free time working on a book idea. Now we want to provide an opportunity for you not only to show us your idea but to win the chance to talk about it with a literary agent. 

For our 2021 Writing Contest, we want to read a preview of your book. Your entry should be up to 1,500 words of your nonfiction book. We want to read what would be an introduction or first chapter—the words that hook your reader and keep them committed for all the chapters that follow.  

The Timeline

Contest Opens: Monday, October 4, 2021

Contest Closes: Monday, November 1, 2021

The winners will be announced by Monday, November 29, 2021.

The Cost

An entry fee of $25.00 is required for each contest entry. 

A single author is allowed to submit multiple entries. 

The Reward

The winning entry will be published in an issue of Fathom Mag and the author will receive a package of writing essentials from our editors. Additionally, the winning author will get to meet with literary agent Mary DeMuth to talk about their book idea and the ins and outs of publishing. 

Mary DeMuth’s expertise is invaluable. Mary has been writing for over three decades and has published over forty books. Her podcast, Pray Everyday, has been downloaded over a million times. In addition to writing her own books, Mary works as a literary agent for Books and Such Literary Management. The winner of our contest will see firsthand that she loves to coach authors on their journey of traditional publishing.
